So he (Elijah) went and did according to the word of the Lord, for he went and stayed by the Brook Cherith, which flows into the Jordan The ravens brought him bread and meat in the morning, and bread and meat in the evening; and he drank from the brook. And it happened after a while that the brook dried up, because there had been no rain in the land (1 Kings 17:5-7, New King James Version). For a long time, God fed Elijah without human help.
In the current or whatever recession, God is well able to provide for your needs without human assistance. However, in verses 8-9 of that same passage, God gave the prophet Elijah a different strategy, Then the word of the Lord came to him, saying, “Arise, go to Zarephath, which belongs to Sidon, and dwell there. See, I have commanded a widow there to provide for you.
And that brings us to our main point. Since He was able to do feed Elijah without human assistance, why did He send Elijah to a widow for help? He did it for the benefit of that widow, since He could have continued to feed His prophet without human aid. Obviously, that widow was in trouble and needed a miracle from God. You see, God is only a present help in trouble as we read in Psalm 46:1. As long as she could find a way out, she did not need God. She had her uncle, mother or brother to help her. But when all human help ended, she was in trouble and it was now time for God to rescue her.
It may be that God is finally coming to rescue and deliver you from trouble and the effects of whatever represents a recession in your life. Don't waste the chance because it may come in the form of a request to help someone else, just like it came to the widow of Zarephath. Because she recognized God within that request, her finances were recession-proofed; she did not die. Additionally, she had sufficient for her and her family throughout the duration of the recession.
When your own request comes, pray and ask God to confirm that it is from God (because there are many charlatans out there). Once you are convinced that God is making that request, ask God for a breakthrough miracle. Please don't ask for suit and tie or shoe and bag – it is almost an insult to the King of kings. Ask for a miracle that is befitting the God who holds the whole world in His hands. After all, He is the God who says in Isaiah 45:19 that He has not asked us to serve Him in vain.
Maybe you are a tenant who wants to become a homeowner, a bus rider who wants to become a car owner, a bachelor who wants to become a husband or a wife who wants to become a mother. You are an employee who wants to become an employer. Maybe you want to go from being a borrower to becoming a lender. Write it down, what you are asking God for, so that when God does it, you will know and praise Him for His faithfulness.
Whenever God asks you to help one of His children in whatever way, He is actually helping you to recession-proof your finances. I pray that you will accede to His request.
