Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the Lord spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the Lord will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the Lord said.” And Joshua blessed him, and gave Hebron to Caleb the son of Jephunneh as an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenizzite to this day, because he wholly followed the Lord God of Israel (Joshua 14:12-14, King James Version). In our everyday lives, we come face to face with situations and circumstances that seem too much for us to handle, that impede our progress or out-rightly block us form moving forward. This was the kind of situation that the disciples of Jesus faced in Mathew 17, whilst Jesus was on the mountain. Their real problem, he told them, was simply their lack of faith. For even with the minimal amount of faith coupled with prayer and fasting if need be, they will be able to deal with any mountain, So Jesus said to them, “Because of your unbelief; for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting.” (Matt 17:verses 20-21). In other words, Jesus was basically telling them that they could overcome their mountains by faith, just like Caleb in our main text.
Before Caleb could say “Give me this mountain”, he had already proved that he was a man of faith, according to Numbers 13:30, Then Caleb quieted the people before Moses, and said, “Let us go up at once and take possession, for we are well able to overcome it." Caleb survived to enter the Promised Land and was able to ask for his inheritance, unlike the other 10 spies, because he believed God and took Him at His Word. When they went to spy the land, it was not to find out whether they could take it or not but to look at the right strategy, for God had already given them the land in Genesis 13:14-18.
When God speaks, it is settled but that does not mean we will not fight battles to take our possession; however, we fight with an assurance of victory. It was this same Hebron, where Abraham built an altar to the Lord after receiving the promise from God that Caleb asked for. It is important to note that Caleb is from the tribe of Judah (praise). Praise mixed with faith will result in victory. The reason why many of us doubt is because we do not fully know what faith is. Faith is simply to believe the WORD of God. To believe what God says and that He is able to do what He has said.
Hebrews 11:1 says, Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. It has substance because it is dependent on the WORD. It is the REAL substance, because the WORD is Life and Spirit – REAL
That is why, when satan wants to tempt you, he makes you to doubt God by attacking the word of God. It is always about what God has said. Let’s look at the 1st temptation in Genesis 3:1, Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, You shall not eat of every tree of the garden?"
We see the same thing occurring over and over in Mathew 4:1-10 during the Temptation of Jesus. 'it is written' is the same thing as 'God said'. Whilst the devil was misquoting what God said, Jesus kept correcting him and stating what God actually said.
Do you know what God has said? Then that is what you must hold on to, not what a man says. Obstacles and delay may present as mountains. Even what He has promised may be looking so far into the future and seemingly impossible or like a mountain. Believe Him at His word and all mountains will move.
Your faith can move mountains out of the way or move your blessings to you, (Mathew 17:20-21). That is why we must have a regular time of prayer and fasting in our schedule at least once a week if we want to be mountain movers. Every mountain must move – All apparent impossibilities must become possible as long as God has said it.
Please note that if God has not said it, there is no point fighting for it.
Ask the Holy Spirit to help you discover what God has said about your situation or request. And in case you can't remember, trust the Holy Spirit to help you because John 15: 26-27 says that The Helper brings His word into our remembrance.
May the Lord build your faith even as the Holy Spirit reveals to you what God has said concerning you. Then go ahead and conquer every mountain in your life today.
